Hanaoka Restaurant: Authentic Japanese Cuisine in National City

Love it! The food and the service felt super authentic. The staff was extremely kind. The food came out quick and delicious. I loved that even thought they are in the US the place had a Japanese vibe.

I've attached the most recent menu they've posted in their restaurant - (wasn't able to get their lunch menu). I could not find a descriptive menu ANYWHERE in the past 2 yrs!!! I had to drive there to order when I would've called ahead. I ordered two rolls of the Golden Munch (wish they had prices for the rolls like they had for everything else ), since one roll of sushi anywhere - never seems to satisfy me.... Well this 1 roll did! I was so surprised and happy to have the second roll for my next meal! I would've gave them 5 stars had they not overcharged me -- but to their defense, they looked up my receipt, got back to me within the day, apologized and said they would credit me back. All in all, I'll definitely be going back and respect them for their honesty.

Generous portions at a great price. Tasty food, Miso soup was delicious. Preface I never eat miso soup because I don't like it. But I like theirs. My teriyaki was tasty but cold. The lunch special is a great deal served with smiles and genuine appreciation.

After reading reviews here I had to try it, had a combo sushi and spicy ramen. In the photo is Combo F which are (3) types of sushi rolls and (4) pcs each type served on a large plate. The sushi itself tasted fresh, amazing. I would like them not drowned in the flakes though, so as not to dig through them to get to the sushi. Spicy ramen was good, just enough spice but lacking a little bit of flavor. The service was excellent, we were checked on multiple times throughout our meal. Kid-friendly with two seating sections and a bar. Wheelchair accessible. They have happy hour twice a day. Would definitely recommend for the generous portions, great service and quick wait times.

Hanamichi (previously Hanaoka) is our main choice for sushi in South Bay. The food is consistently great, as is the service. They have a pretty wide selection, though I tend to stick to a few main options. The only problem they really have is that it often has a pretty long wait, they don't have a system to notify you by text, there is limited outdoor seating to wait on, and they don't do reservations. But it's always been worth the wait!

The food is amazing and the portions are huge. We orded our usual amount of food and ate maybe a third. And we really tried. Their ramen is amazing and the tempora roll was so good

Hanamichi Japanese Restaurant absolutely deserves a full five stars and then some. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, clean, and inviting. The staff greeted me right away with genuine friendliness, and that level of great customer service continued throughout my entire visit. Everyone was attentive without being overbearing, and they made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. Now the food honestly, incredible. The sushi was unbelievably fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. Every bite tasted like high-quality ingredients handled with real skill. The miso soup was rich, savory, and perfectly balanced exactly what you expect from a great Japanese restaurant. And the jalapeño poppers were a standout: crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and just the right amount of heat. You can tell they put effort into even the small details. Another huge plus is the pricing. For the quality of the food and the level of service, the prices are more than fair. It’s rare to find a place where you feel like you’re truly getting your money’s worth, but Hanamichi definitely delivers. Overall, this is the kind of spot you look forward to coming back to. Great food, great service, fair prices—Hanamichi checks every box. Highly recommend to anyone who loves good sushi and a great dining experience.

We love this sushi restaurant! The quality is probably consistently a 9/10 or a 10/10 over the last 6 years or more of going there. This last time the owner really stepped it up. We love getting the boat and were able to customize a fun boat for our party. I told the owner that he should rename one of the rolls "Family Reunion" he laughed and said, "The Family Reunion." We'll have to see if they do it or not... LOL! The rolls were all amazing! We'll be back for sure, time and time again.
